Elder Nora Cummings to receive the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, the province's highest honour

Western Region 2A Local Presidents Honoured with Queen's Jubilee medals

25 individuals were awarded with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medal in Saskatoon.

Of those honoured, were the presidents of Metis Locals in WR2A as well as several citizens from our Region. Congratulations to everyone!

MN-S President - Glen McCallum, Vice President - Michelle LeClair, Secretary - Lisa McCallum, Minister of Veterans - Tex Bouvier, Minister Marg Freisen and her Health Team, Lauren Scharfste our Volunteer Lawyer who explained Wills and power of attorney, to PLEA for providing all the information materials about Wills, estates, Power of Attorney, Our MC - Maureen Bellanger, JJ Lavalee for singing the Metis Anthem and providing fiddle music as well as some songs on Saturday. The Dean Smith Band for providing an excellent Tribute to the Metis Fiddle, and Joseph Desjarlais for his fine fiddle playing as well.

Many thanks to; Misty Moran - WR2A Office Coordinator, Gaylene Poulin our Communications and Social Media Consultant and Elders Gathering helpers Penny Foulds, Erin Boucher and Presley Boucher. Thank you to the many volunteers who assisted throughout the planning as well as the Elders Gathering weekend. It was an honor to be present as WR2A Elders shared their wisdom, stories, laughter and visiting.

We hope to be able to bring the Elders all together again in the future. Also a thank you to MN-S - Urban Programming for Indigenous Peoples (UPIP) for the funds that helped make this such a successful event.

Today, WRIIA Area Director Penny Hurton, CUMFI President Shirley Isbister, Elder Norman Fleury, MN-S President Glen McCallum and his wife Verna McCallum all gathered together at the statue of Gabriel Dumont in Saskatoon to pay their respects in a small ceremony to the legacy and sacrifice of Métis leader Louis Riel. 

"We must cherish our inheritance. We must preserve our nationality for the youth of our future. The story should be written down to pass on." - Louis Riel

 

 

Western Region IIA Mourns the loss of Senator Michael Maurice

New agreement under Parks Canada’s Open Doors Program offers Métis Nation – Saskatchewan citizens free access to National Parks and Historic Sites in Saskatchewan
